William J. Clinton was born with the name William Jefferson Blythe IV on August 19, 1946. He was born in Hope, Arkansas, just three months after his father passed away in a traffic accident. When he was just 4 his mother remarried to Rodger Clinton of Hot Springs, Arkansas. In high school young William took the family name.

While in school, Clinton excelled as a student and as a saxophone player. Frequently during his political career he played the sax and entertained audiences all around. As a delegate to Boys Nation while in high school, he met President Kennedy in the White House Rose Garden. That very encounter inspired him to take a career in the life of public service. Clinton attended Georgetown University and in 1968 received a bachelor's degree in foreign service. He studied at Oxford University for two years after that. He then received a law degree from Yale University in 1973, then returned to Arkansas to teach law at the University of Arkansas and to prepare to enter politics.

During 1974 he was defeated in his campaign for Congress in Arkansas' Third District. In 1975 he married Hillary Rodham, a Wellesley College graduate. They met each other while they were both studying law at Yale. Their marriage formed a strong personal as well as political partnership that lead to much of the strong dimension of the Clinton Presidency. In 1980, their daughter Chelsea was born.

In 1976 Clinton was elected Arkansas attorney general. He then went on to win the governorship in 1978. Clinton lost as his try at second term. He remained governor until 1992. That year he defeated George Bush and third-party candidate Ross Perot for Presidency.

Clinton's running mate, Tennessee's Senator Albert Gore, then 44, represented a new generation in political leadership. For the first time in 12 years, both White House and Congress held the same party. Clinton has done much in his term. He signed into law measurements to revitalize the economy and renew the American community. He won Congressional approval of a massive deficit reduction plan to boost standards and create jobs. There was a barrier-breaking trade agreement with Mexico and aid to Russia. Also he made tax cuts for small businesses and the working poor. The Brady Bill was also a big thing which required a waiting period before gun purchase.
