Overview
What Are the Ingredients in Orexis?Orexis is made by Urban Nutrition. They claim Orexis is a non-prescription, herbal alternative to Viagra or Cialis to help men with sexual dysfunction in maintaining an erection throughout intercourse. The main ingredient is called pervalidus obduro. However, this name refers to a composition of ingredients and is not an herb.
The Ingredients
The listed ingredients include five herbs goathead (tribulus terrestris), horny goat weed (epimedium sagittum), muira puama, panax ginseng, damiana (turnera aphrodisiaca), and two herbal extracts (minute amounts) of yohimbe and catuaba bark. The manufacturers do not list what percentages of each ingredient are used. They also claim in their advertising that they have found a way to make these herbs and extracts work 15 times stronger than usual.
Goathead
Also known as puncture vine or caltrop, goathead is a hearty weed that can grow even in deserts. There are four varieties in the species, but Urban Nutrition does not specify which varieties are used in Orexis. It is thought to be an aphrodisiac, partially due to studies with male rodents which showed they had an increase in androgen production and mounting females more often, but this has never been proven in studies with men (See Resources).
Other Ingredients
All of the other herbs listed are reported to have aphrodidsiac qualities. Horny goat weed has come out best in clinical studies as an aphrodisiac, because it helps more blood get to the penis by inhibiting an enzyme called PDE-5. Muira puama is a stimulant and may help with coordination. Pananx ginseng has been shown to help improve circulation, which may help get needed blood to the penis. Ginseng is a stimulant, but another Orexis ingredient, damiana, is a relaxant, which helps to overcome any nervous issues which may hinder lovemaking.
Warning
Just because a product is made of herbs, doesn't mean it is completely safe for you. Herbs are powerful medications and can interact with over the counter or prescription medications or even with other herbs. Always check with your doctor first before taking any herbal supplement. Do not use this article in the place of your doctor's advice.
Considerations
Orexis is not approved by any national drug administration as actually living up to its claims. Also, the herbal supplement business is a self-governing industry, so there are no guarantees that the ingredients listed will actually be present or if those herbs will be good quality. If you have any kind of sexual dysfunction, please visit your doctor for help.
