How to Install Faux Wood Blinds

By Christopher Capelle

  • Overview

Faux wood blinds are a terrific way to improve the appearance of any room while sticking to a budget. Installing them is fairly easy; no professional assistance is required in most cases. Although they come in standard sizes, most stores selling faux wood blinds are able to cut them to fit your windows.

    • Step 1

Remove any treatments or coverings from the windows. Clean the windows (panes, sills and molding) thoroughly. Patch up any holes, nicks, dings and then paint the window frames.
    • Step 2

Measure the width of the windows where you wish to install the blinds. The blinds should have 1/8 inch clearance on each side to avoid scraping the frame.

    • Step 3

Buy the blinds, and have them cut in the store, if necessary.
    • Step 4

Hang the brackets on the top corners of the window frame. Depending on the type of frame you have, you may have to attach them on the side, the back or the top. There are screw holes on top, the sides and the back of the brackets.

    • Step 5

Install the brackets so the latch swings up. This means that there is a definite right and left bracket.

    • Step 6

Slide the blinds all the way back into the brackets and close the latches, making sure everything is flush. Then clip on the valance, hang the wand and repeat for the rest of the windows.
