If you purchase them in a local home improvement store, you have two options. One, you can do it yourself. Two, sometimes they have subcontractors that will go and do it for you. When you install them, the biggest thing is that you need to make sure that you find out where the down spouts go in your house. If the water comes off your roof you need to displace that water somewhere else, so you need to make sure that you have enough down spouts on your home. You don't make the gutters level, but you have to angle them a little bit, so that the water goes downhill towards the gutters. You want the water to flow naturally; otherwise, you may have backup and overflow on your gutters.

And the other thing with installing is that sometimes if you are doing this yourself, you want to make sure it is secured properly to the home. You want to make sure that you don't damage the roof wires while you are installing the gutters. There are some gutter companies that tie their gutter systems into the roof. When you do that, you are not only affecting the gutters, you could also, if it is not properly installed, be damaging the roof. We call this leakage and water backup. Then, the whole issue of mold and mildew comes up. Our gutters don't touch the roof at all. It goes directly into the side of the house, which is like the face and the socket, right there where it is connected.

And when you are dealing with the down spouts, our company emphasizes the larger down spout. We put the larger type down spouts on there, so when we do get a heavy rain, the gutter can handle all that rain. They can carry twice as much water as the old style down spouts. So when you are in a heavy rain and you don't want that flood in your house or your basement or damaging your foundation, it's critical to get that water away from your home as soon as possible.
