How to Install an Ink Cartridge in an Epson Stylus 1000 Printer

By Nathaniel Miller

  • Overview

The Epson Stylus 1000 is a solid-performing printer series that was discontinued as laserjet printers became more common. Utilizing inkjet technology, the Epson Stylus 1000 was one of the best black and white printers of its era and is still a commonly used printer type today. One ink cartridge was said to be good for 700 pages of black and white printing. While this is a considerable amount of printing, the ink will still run out at some point. Replacing the ink cartridge on the Epson Stylus 1000 is not complicated and can be performed in under 15 minutes.

    • Step 1

Turn the printer off by pressing the power button. Then turn the power back on while holding the ALT and PAUSE keys down on the keyboard. When the printer has begun to initialize, release the ALT and PAUSE keys, in turn sending the print head to the ink replacement position.
    • Step 2

Flip open the printer cover and open the ink cartridge clamp. Pull the ink cartridge out of the clamp and discard or prepare for recycling. Open the packaging of the new cartridge and pull off the clear plastic tape that protects the cartridge contacts.

    • Step 3

Insert the new cartridge into the ink cartridge clamp and press the clamp down, locking the cartridge into position.
    • Step 4

Press the ALT key to charge the ink delivery system, close the printer cover, and get started printing.

    • Do not touch the area that is protected by the clear plastic tape as this is the ink delivery site and determines the quality of your print job.
