How to Install a Lexmark 3430 Printer

By Daniel Barrows

  • Overview

The Lexmark 3430 is an all-in-one device capable of scanning, copying and printing documents. The 3430 will print files at resolutions of up to 4800 by 1200 dpi on a wide range of media, including card stock, photo paper, envelopes, transparencies and banners. The Lexmark 3430 is capable of producing draft-quality documents at a rate of 17 pages per minute and comes equipped with borderless printing capabilities for your digital photography needs. Installing your Lexmark 3430 printer is a simple procedure, accomplished in a matter of minutes.
    • Step 1

Connect one end of the power cord to your printer. Plug the remaining end into an available electrical outlet. Turn on the printer.
    • Step 2

Select your language from the control panel using the up and down arrow keys; press the "menu" button to confirm your selection.

    • Step 3

Extend the front and rear paper trays. Slide the plastic guides on the rear paper tray as far out as they will go. Insert paper into the rear paper tray. Slide the plastic guides inward until they are flush with the paper.
    • Step 4

Lift the scanning unit. The ink cartridge holder will slide into view. Lift the blue lid on the ink cartridge holder and insert the ink cartridge (remove the plastic tape on the bottom of the cartridge prior to installation). Lower the blue lid to secure the ink cartridge in place. Lower the scanning unit.
    • Step 5

Turn on your computer. Connect one end of the USB cable to the USB port on the rear-left side of your printer. Connect the other end to any available USB port on your computer.
    • Step 6

Insert the installation CD (alternatively, you can download an installer from the manufacturer's website; see Resources below). Open the installation program and follow the onscreen instructions.
    • Step 7

Double-click on the "Imaging Studio" icon on your desktop. Click on the button labeled "Maintain/Troubleshoot." Click on "Maintenance." Click on "Align to Fix Blurry Edges." Click on "Print." Follow the onscreen instructions to align your ink cartridges. Once this process is complete, your printer is ready for use.
    • Skill: Moderately Easy
    • Ingredients:
    • USB cable
    • Warning:
    • Avoid touching the copper contacts on the ink cartridge during installation; always handle the cartridge by the plastic sides.
    • The Lexmark 3430 does not come with an included USB cable; you will have to provide your own.
    • The print tray on a Lexmark 3430 is designed to hold 100 sheets of plain paper or 25 sheets of photo or glossy paper. To avoid paper jams, do not overfill the paper tray.
