Step 1
Turn on the printer, open the front hatch and lid to insert the ink cartridges. Press down on the cartridge levers to open the lids. Make sure to remove the protective tape that covers the cartridge contacts. Insert the cartridges and close the individual lids. Close the top lid and hatch.

Boot your computer to the desktop and plug the printer cable into a vacant USB port. Click "Cancel" on all dialog windows that open.

Insert the software CD that came with the Lexmark 730. After the CD loads, click "Continue" and the driver should install. The driver is the program that tells your computer how to interact with the printer.

Download the driver, if needed. If you don't have the software CD or are running the Microsoft Vista operating system, download the driver from the Lexmark 730 support page (see Resources below).

Step 5
Check the printer installation by printing a test page. Click on "Control Panel," "Printers," "Properties," "Maintenance" and "Print Test Page."
