By Daniel Barrows

  • Overview

Compatible with both PC and Apple computers, the Lexmark X5070 is an all-in-one device capable of performing all the operations of a printer, scanner, copier and fax machine. The X5070 can print documents at a maximum resolution of 4800 x 1200 dpi using a variety of print media, including plain, glossy and photo paper. At draft quality settings, this printer generates black and white pages at a rate of 24 per minute; color documents print at 17 pages per minute. You can install it in a matter of minutes.
    • Step 1

Insert one end of the power cord into the power supply connector located on the rear of the printer. Plug the remaining end into an electrical outlet.
    • Step 2

Insert one end of the telephone cord into the LINE port located on the rear of the printer. Plug the remaining end into a telephone jack.

    • Step 3

Insert one end of the USB cord into the USB port located on the rear of the printer. Plug the remaining end into any available USB slot on your computer.
    • Step 4

Load paper into the paper support; adjust the paper guides until they are flush with the paper.
    • Step 5

Turn on the printer. Lift the control panel and open the access panel. Locate the cartridge holder and press down on the cartridge holder levers. Insert the ink cartridges into their appropriate slots on the cartridge holder (black ink on the left, color on the right); lower the lids over each cartridge. Close the access panel and lower the control panel, pressing down until you feel it snap into place. Press the check-mark button.
    • Step 6

Turn on the computer. Insert the installation CD into the CD drive; if the installation CD is unavailable, download the appropriate software from the manufacturer's website (see Resources below). If using Windows, the installation program will begin automatically; click "Install." If using OS X, locate the CD icon in the Finder, double-click on "CD," double-click on the Install icon and follow the onscreen instructions.
    • Step 7

Press the Settings button on the printer's control panel. Use the arrow buttons to select "Maintenance" and press the check-mark button. Use the arrow buttons to select "Align Cartridges" and press the check-mark button twice. The printer will begin to align the print cartridges; once this process is complete, the printer is ready for use.
