How to Install Lexmark X5250 Printers

By Christopher Capelle

  • Overview

The Lexmark X5250 is an inexpensive color ink jet printer, scanner and copier with a list price of $89.99. Like similar multi-function machines, it was best used in light-to-medium print environments. Now discontinued, the X5250 shared several attributes of several other Lexmark models, notably cross platform (Windows/Mac) capabilities, the inclusion of two ink cartridges -- one black and one color -- and the lack of an included USB cable.

    • Step 1

Remove all packing material used to stabilize the printer during shipping (plastic, tape, foam and cardboard) from the printer.
Don't expect a USB cable to be included.
    • Step 2

Attach the A/C cable, power the printer on, open the cover and insert the ink cartridges. Confirm that they are properly seated.
Use only authentic Lexmark ink cartridges.

    • Step 3

Attach the paper feed tray and insert the paper in the feeder. Open the output tray.
Use the correct type of paper for your print needs.
    • Step 4

Connect the USB cable to the printer; attach the other end into an unused USB port on your computer.
Use the CD to install the software, or download the latest drivers.
    • Step 5

Install the drivers with the included CD, or download the drivers from the Lexmark website. Inserting the CD will launch the autorun wizard on Windows computers and will mount on the desktop of Macintosh computers. In both instances, follow the prompts to install the software.
Installing the drivers is a simple task.
    • Step 6

Reboot your computer once the installer has finished. After restart, confirm that the printer is properly installed by printing a test sheet. Open the Lexmark software under Programs in the Start menu on Windows computers, or Applications on Macs, to confirm the scanning software has installed correctly.
