Inventions That Could Help the World

By Alan Kirk

  • Overview

Inventions are created every day, with new patents being issued on a regular basis. Despite the constant flow of new inventions there are still inventions that have not been developed which could help the world. These inventions could help people with problems with the environment, transportation, and communication just to name a few. These inventions would make the world a more efficient place to live in on a daily basis.
  • Environmental

The focus on environmentally friendly living continues to grow and there are a few inventions that could help the world in this area. One would be lights that had a sensor to determine the brightness level in a room. Once the minimum required brightness level was obtained, they would limit their use of energy to the amount necessary to maintain the appropriate lighting level.
  • Transportation

An invention that would be beneficial for commuters across the globe would be a system of traffic lights in a grid that could adjust their timing based on real-time traffic conditions. We are close to this with sensors that can determine the length of a line of traffic at a light, but this device would adjust timing based on road conditions within a five-mile radius. The changes would not follow a programmed cycle based on the time of the day, but use real-time monitoring of traffic conditions.

  • Cooking

The ability to program an oven from your cell phone and to be able to control the temperature and time settings for the oven would save families a lot of time. This would allow families to start their oven and make necessary adjustments when they are not at the house. It would also be helpful if the oven could be programmed with a setting to turn off after a certain amount of time if it does not receive another signal from the owner's cell phone in that time period. This would avoid issues that could arise based on cellular reception issues.
  • Communication

To make communication quicker and more efficient, it would be helpful to create a worldwide communication system. Each individual would have a button that clipped onto his shirt with a numeric code. To reach another individual you would just say "contact number 43563" as a way to reach him. This would make everyone accessible when needed. The communication could be programmed to have a message for the caller if the recipient was sleeping at the time or unavailable.
  • Water usage

An invention that could help the world save water is a monitoring system in each state or municipality that could detect the average use of water in an area on a weekly basis. Along with this, there would be a water delivery system for the entire state with storage devices for each population center. The system could determine how much water each area would need based on recent water usage. The water would transport through the transportation system to maintain a level for each area that was sufficient based on recent consumption.
