Since the party will continue on past midnight, it is appropriate and considerate to provide dinner or finger foods. Of course, if alcohol is going to be consumed, you can choose to provide all of the alcohol or simply the setups (for example, ginger ale, sodas, juices). However, you will want to indicate this on the invitation. Since you will be providing dinner or finger foods, you can ask that each guest RSVP so you can get an accurate headcount to prepare an adequate amount of food.
At midnight, we will raise our glasses and cheer...
As we bring in a wonderful new year!

While etiquette books feel it is customary that the host provide all food and drinks (aside from alcoholic drinks), it has become a trend to throw potluck parties, where guests bring in a favorite dish. Be sure to indicate this on the invitation if you expect others to bring in a dish. Also, since the party will be going on until the wee hours of the morning, indicate on the invitation whether or not children are welcome.
