Learn how to make beautiful wrapping paper with a fun bubble painting technique!
Bubble painting can be very, very messy, so you should find a work area that can be covered by newspaper or a plastic craft table cloth. You will need one jar for each color of bubble paint that you want to make. In the jar, mix together three or four tablespoons of dish soap, water, and enough paint to get the mixture to your desired color. Mix these ingredients together gently with a spoon. Do not shake the jars! This will cause a plethora of bubbles that will take a long time to pop. When you have a nice, soapy, paint-filled solution, you are ready to start bubble painting!
Grab a straw, stick it into the jar, and blow into it like you would blow bubbles into a beverage. Do not blow too hard! These jars can easily overflow. You will notice that bubble will start to rise at the top of the jar. Try to get a mixture of small and large bubbles. When the bubbles have risen a few inches above the top of the jar without overflowing, stop blowing. Take your piece of paper and press it onto the top of the jar. This will break the bubbles, but leave the paint imprint of the bubbles on your paper! The look of this is very neat. It is almost three dimensional.
If more than one person is doing this project at a time, you might want to make separate containers for each person. Also, make sure there is no exchanging of straws. This will prevent germs from being spread to others. Do not suck in the bubble solution while painting!
Try using different colors and popping the bubbles on the paper on top of other colors for a cool mixed effect. Do not pop too many sets of bubbles on your paper, because the paper will become soggy and the bubble paint may bleed, thereby ruining the three dimensional effect. When you are done, let your paper dry. If you want to make wrapping paper using bubble paint, use bigger sheets of paper. Packing paper can be found in large rolls at most office supply stores. The wrapping paper that is produced by bubble painting is very unique and beautiful.
If you would like to save your paint to use for future bubble painting crafts, you can! Simply put the lids on the jars, seal tightly, and store. Do not keep these around for too long, but they should last at least a month.
