Kitchen Pantry Shelving: Options And Ideas

Updating kitchen pantries can creat a more organized and efficient space using shelves.

Whether you are a professional chef or just love to cook, your pantry shelves could probably use an update. Would you like to have a place for all of your cooking products and dry goods? If so, updating your pantry may just make that change that you need.

The kitchen is one of the most important and busiest rooms in your house. You can design your kitchen pantry to reflect the needs of you and your family. Not to mention that if you decide to update your current pantry, it can help increase the resell value of your property. If you decide to do it yourself instead of hiring a contractor, you can save a lot more money, but if you do decide to do it yourself, you will need to know basic carpentry and have some woodworking skills.

First, you need to decide what it is exactly that you would like the pantry to look like and what you want to store in it.

There are so many products on the market that can help you with that job. First take a look at the area where you want to put your pantry. What is the shape of it? Is the shape just big enough to reach in, or is it big enough to walk-in, or is it an irregular size? This will give you an idea of how much storage space you have and help you decide what you want to store in your pantry.

Decide what shelving units you are going to use. What kind of accessories would you like to have? Once you start looking you will be amazed at the number of items out there. Start by removing any old material that is in the area of your new pantry. Some tools that you will need include a tape measure, level, drill, hammer, saw, and screwdriver.

For sturdier shelving units, you will want to secure them to your walls. Mark your walls where needed. Using your level, draw a line across the back wall of the closet. Attach a securing track to your wall. If your pantry shelving is going to carry any sort of weight, make sure it is attached to a wall stud. Hang vertical shelves from the track according to your shelving design. Install your shelves.

What type of pantry organizers would you like to use?

Hanging racks are great to hang stemware. It keeps your glasses in sight, and it is a perfect way to store them. If you have a big enough pantry, you can install a beverage cooler and have your stemware hanging above it with bottles of wine placed in wine racks above the stemware.

Installing plate rack dowels can create storage for useless space. You can put plates or platters behind these and you will easily be able to find that favorite platter. You can also store those plastic lids that you can never seem to find when you need them.

You may want some of your shelves enclosed. You can install pull out drawers to hold your can goods or whatever you want to keep out of sight.

If you have a collection of spices that you want at your fingertips, you may consider installing some type of lazy Susan in corner areas to make your spices easier to reach.

To finish out your new pantry you may want to make sure that you have a stool to help you get those hard to reach items.
