Learn To Play Online Craps

A very basic beginner guide to the world of playing craps online, including a list of the most commong online bets and what to do if you are the shooter in the game.

Craps is a game of chance that dates back to the times of Emperor Nero. As long as there have been dice, there has been some sort of variation of the game of craps. But one style of playing craps is relatively new- online craps. In truth, there is very little difference between playing craps in an online casino vs. a traditional offline casino. If you know how to play craps offline, you will be able to play online, as well. They key is to know how to play- which is easier said than done in this game. With so many bets and rules, learning how to play craps can be downright intimidating. But with this beginner's guide, new players will learn the basics of the game to get them on their way.

In a craps game, an employee named a "˜boxman' is the boss of the table. What he says goes, always! He is assisted by two dealers, whose job is to pay winning betters their chips and rake in the chips of people who place losing bets. Across from them is the stickman, who calls for bets and hands the dice to the shooter (person whose turn it is to throw the dice). He basically controls the pace of the game. In an online casino, these people are there merely for show, since the computer is really in charge of the game.

Everyone at the table will be asked to place bets. There are a multitude of boxes on the table to place your chips in, and even though in an online casino you are not using physical chips, the table still has the boxes. You simply click how many chips you want to wager, then click the box of the bet you wish to place. The chips will be there instantly, and your bet is now placed. You can place as many bets as you wish. If you are playing in a multi-player game, you will now have to wait for the other players to decide which bets they wish to place as well. This could take some time, so be patient.

If you do not know which bets to place, the most popular bets are "˜pass' and "˜don't pass'. The reason the pass and don't pass bets are so popular is that they are almost even money bets. The casino has a very tiny advantage over you- less than 2%. This means that you have a very good chance of not losing your shirt. Proposition bets are the other type of bets. There are several of these, and we will get into them more in a bit.

If it is your turn to be the shooter, you will be asked to roll the dice. Since you are online, this means pressing a button that usually says "roll". The same rules apply for craps online as off- if you roll a 7 or an 11, you have rolled a "˜natural' and you win. If you roll a 2, 3 or 12, you have rolled "˜craps' and you lose. If you roll a 4, 5, 6 or 8, 9 or 10, then you now have what is called a "˜point number'. The object of the game is to roll that same point number again BEFORE you roll another 7. If you roll a 7 before the point number, you lose.

Now that you understand the object of the game, we can go back to the betting. A "˜pass' bet means that you (or others betting) believe that the shooter will roll the point number before rolling a 7. A "˜don't pass' bet means you are betting that the shooter will roll a 7 before the point number. So you are either betting for or against the shooter. Be aware that if you bet against the shooter, most casinos will take a 5% commission on your winnings.

A proposition bet means that you are betting that a specific thing will happen in the next roll or series of rolls. For instance, a "˜place' bet on 9 means that you believe the shooter will roll a 9 before they roll the point number or a 7. You can make a place bet on a 4, 5,6,8,9 and 10. These come with higher risk, but a higher payout if you win, as well. They are quite popular. A "˜field' bet means you think the shooter will roll a 2 or 12 on the very next roll. There are so many other bets that it is impossible to list them all in a beginner's learning tool. These are the basic bets that are popular because they carry the least risk. Once you get used to these basic bets you can always learn the less-common, riskier bets later. Most online casinos have some sort of primer or "˜how-to' guide that will teach you more about these types of bets.

Win or lose, the money will either be added or subtracted from your bankroll. "Bankroll" is the casino term for the money in your account that you play with. Deductions or additions are automatic. If you feel the amount is wrong or there has been an error, contact customer service. At most casinos, you can talk to a live representative 24/7.

As long as you follow the instructions on the screen, you will always know what you are doing. Even if you are not the shooter, you are still playing because you will be placing bets. You can also pass your turn to be the shooter, meaning that you are merely betting on each game. So pay attention, be alert and most of all- have fun! The game of craps is arguably the most exciting one because it is almost purely a game of chance and not skill. With each roll and bet you will not only learn to love this thrilling game, but you will learn more about the game itself. With this guide and what you learn as you play, you can become an online craps expert in no time!
