Cheap personalized wedding favors

With a little planning and creativity, you can give your wedding guests a personalized wedding favor without breaking the bank.

Everyone loves to receive a wedding favor as a reminder of the special day. When the favor is personalized, it adds even more meaning. However, the added cost of printing names and dates can make many couples pass by these personalized gifts. With a little planning and creativity, you can give your wedding guests a more memorable memento without breaking the bank.

Get Crafty

You can add an even more meaningful personal touch to wedding favors by personalizing them yourself. While having an artistic or crafty flair will help, anyone can do simple personalization. And with the popularity of scrapbooking, easy-to-use decorative papers and pens are more widely available than ever before.

A gel or paint pen will make it easy to add your own mark to any plastic, glass, or ceramic favor. Since this will take time, especially if you’re having a large wedding, the simpler your message the better. You also need to consider the size of your favor in deciding what to write. For instance, writing your initials in a heart would be a cute touch that would take less effort and space than writing out your full names.

If writing on the favor itself doesn’t seem to work, you can always add a decorative tag. You can buy fancy papers while still being economical because you’ll only need a small portion of one sheet for each favor. You can keep your message simple and traditional or create a catchy saying. If you keep your bows small, one spool of ribbon or string should be enough to tie your tag on to each favor, keeping the cost down.

Use Your Printer

The easiest way to add a bit of personalization to a pre-fabricated wedding favor is to create a label or attachable tag, and you can make these cheaply and easily with your own computer and printer. Small labels will work best with a simple message, such as “Bob and Mary United in Love, January 8, 2005.” You can put your names, the date of the wedding, a special poem, or even a picture on larger tags. Which option works best will depend upon your favor.

Check your local office supply store for the largest selection of printer-ready labels, although you can also find some varieties at discount department store chains. Consider clear labels for a cleaner look when attached to your favor. Depending on the size you’re looking for, either address or shipping labels might fit your needs. Printable business card or postcard sheets can also work for favor tags.

Once you have the labels or cards, most word processing programs can automatically create a template to fit the style, and it’s simply a matter of inserting your own text and pictures. Look for free clip art and fonts online to add extra visual appeal.

Use Your Connections

If you don’t feel capable of doing the personalization work yourself, look to your network of family, friends and acquaintances for help. Do you have a friend who knows calligraphy or an uncle who owns a printing shop? See if you can employ their services at a reduced rate. They may even be willing to do it as their wedding gift to you. Ask around at your church or health club or at work to see if there’s anyone who scrapbooks or crafts as a hobby. You won’t always be able to convince someone to perform the work at the price you want, but it never hurts to ask.

Whatever method you choose, your wedding guests will thank you for your extra effort, and your budget will thank you for your low-cost choice.
