Your bathroom is in need of a new medicine cabinet. Do you really know what you are looking for when you go shopping for one? A lot of people pick the design of a cabinet to match what goes into the bathroom.
Sometimes you should also consider the functionality of this piece as well. It’s nice to have a pretty cabinet that matches your décor. It could be more functional and sometimes if you look a little harder you’ll find one that is just right for you.
It all begins with size. You should measure how big or small you want your medicine cabinet to be. Perhaps you need something tall but comes out from the wall only an inch or two. Sometime you need something really thick and fat.

If you find the face of one cabinet is suitable to your needs but the inside of another is more suitable functionally, then perhaps you can figure out how to combine the two and make one that is just perfect for your bathroom. Some fittings might need to be changed in order to make this change over and you’ll probably not be able to return the unused pieces but you might be able to make a new one out of the old parts for someone else to use as well.
In addition, if you have kids you might need to consider if you should have extra protection on your medicine cabinet. You can’t have kids opening the door and being able to take out things that might be dangerous to them. If you can, try to get a special designed mechanism that you attach to the outside of the cabinet. If you have to, sometimes it’s necessary to put a sort of lock on it too if you put medicine that is extremely dangerous for kids to play with. It is always better to be safe than sorry.
Sometimes the best medicine cabinets are ones that others are discarding. They don’t make those cabinets like they used to and if you can find the base of one that is solid in structure and also functional then you’ve got yourself a good medicine cabinet that will last a long time.
Now that you’ve chosen the right design and functionality that is right for you, simply follow the instructions on installing your cabinet at an even level. If you have a plain looking medicine cabinet it doesn’t have to stay that way! Use creative painting or stencils to decorate the mirror or the side and wrap fabric around it to give it a softer look. Just because it’s now functional doesn’t mean it can’t be stylish either.
