Fashion tips: clothing guidelines for plus-sized women

Learn about plus size fashion guidelines to help any women look her best.

Knowing what kinds of clothing and what fashions look good on your body type is a hard task for most people. It becomes even more challenging for plus size women who do not know exactly what looks good with their body type. There are key things to look for when you are choosing good fashion for your plus size body.

The first key to finding clothing that looks good on a plus size woman is to figure out how the body is shaped. Even women who are considered plus size have differences in proportion, height, and volume. If you are a short plus size woman, then there are specific things that you can look for when shopping for the right style. The first thing is to buy pants and jeans that go straight down from the hip. This will help elongate your body. Also, pin stripes are a great way to make you look taller and make your legs look longer. If you wear jeans or pants that are boot cut or that have flared bottoms, it will actually add to your bulk and make you seem shorter than what you are.

For women who are taller, it is also important to choose the right kind of pant. Taller women are able to get away with flare or boot cut pants and jeans, but this should not include all the pants in your wardrobe. Boot cut is a better choice than flare, because the flare may be a little too wide. Too much width at the ankles causes plus size women to look shorter and bigger than they are. A straighter leg that falls straight down from the hip gives the illusion of longer, slimmer legs.

Since many plus size women feel like parts of their body are too curvy and voluptuous, it is a good idea to choose clothing that helps those areas look better. For example, if you feel that your butt is too big or too wide, it is not a good idea to buy pants that do not have pockets on the back. You want to have pants that have pockets on the back, but you do not want the pockets to be too large or too crazy. Make sure that the pockets are medium size and simple and plain looking. This will make your rump look smaller while not calling great attention to it. If you feel like your hips stick out too far, then make sure that your pant falls straight down from your hip instead of choosing a pant that hugs the legs all the way down. This will make you look more proportionate on the lower half of your body.

The upper half of the body is a little trickier; because many plus size women tend to wear clothes that are too big for them. When you choose shirts to wear, make sure that the length of the shirt falls in the middle of the waist. Shirts that are longer than that can cover the belly and the butt and cause these areas to be more noticeable and can make them look bigger than they are in reality. Also, choose blouses and blazers that go in a little in the midsection. This will allow you to be comfortable with showing off your shape while allowing you to feel comfortable in your own skin. Do not be afraid to layer your shirts, and do not be afraid to show a little skin by having a lower cut shirt.

In any case, the main key to choosing great fashionable clothing that looks great on a plus size body is to buy clothes that truly fit each part of your body. So many plus size women wear clothes that are too big for them in order to hide flaws. By doing this, they actually add bulk on to their body, and this can make them look sloppy. If you are unsure of your exact measurements, go to a local clothing store and have yourself measured for more accurate fits.

Every woman can look beautiful and fashionable no matter what her size may be. Plus size women can learn to dress for their body and gain more confidence when they look at themselves in the mirror and see the way they look.
