Meditation is a very personal endeavor and there is no wrong or right way to do it. However, many people find that a guided meditation is the best way for them to establish a regular practice in their daily lives. There are also times when your meditation may have a specific goal or problem to resolve.
The first step in any meditation is to still all the activity of your body and mind. Many religions teach the practice of meditation for spiritual awareness and communication. However, many people into today’s hectic culture find it extremely difficult to quiet their thoughts and arrive at the peaceful and relaxing state that is the result of a still mind.
Focusing on your breath or on a special word such as “love” or “peace” may help you get to this stage in meditation. In the beginning you may have to consciously look at and let go of each of the individual thoughts that tries to make its way into your meditation.
White Light Meditation
After stilling your mind, envision and embrace the feeling of a bright white light enveloping your body and surroundings. As you begin to feel the warmth and brightness of the light, focus your attention on the connection with God that lies within yourself. Envision your heart as a golden sun and keep your attention there. The next step is to acknowledge the God power within yourself by saying, “I joyfully accept the fullness of God’s presence within my very being.” Continue to focus on the brightness and intensity of the light and your body for at least ten minutes. You may want to close your meditation by acknowledging, “I am a child of the Light. I live in the Light. I am protected and sustained by the Light.”
Healing Meditation
Assume a meditative position, placing your hands in your lap with the palms open. Relax as you focus on your breathing. Focus on the area of your body which needs help and picture a dark cloud descending and covering that area. Holding this visualization breathe in slowly through your nose, squeezing your hands into fists at the same time. Now breathe out through your mouth as you envision the dark cloud leaving your body along with the breath, reopening your palms at the same time. Visualize the dark cloud flowing far away until it disappears. Repeat this exercise three times. You can also modify this meditation to visualize the healing of others or troubled situations.
Abundance Meditation
Before beginning this meditation, write down the goals you want to focus on. Be very specific. These goals may involve any area of your life which you would like to change including career, money, relationships, etc. Be sure to keep the wording simple. Next you will want to find visual representation of your goal, such as picture cut from a magazine, or you may want to draw your own pictures. Attach these to the page where you have written your goals and write your name across the top of the page. Create this piece of paper to be a 2 inch square or use a copier to reduce the image. After you assume your meditative position and still your mind, begin to focus on the power centers within your body. The first is located a hand’s width above your belly button. The second is in the area of your forehead between your eyebrows. Begin by placing your goals on the power center located in your stomach. Visualize a bright white light searing the images deep within your body, keeping your eyes closed. Hold this image for five minutes. Repeat the process by placing the paper on your power center located on your forehead.
