Pregnancy brings about many changes in a women’s life. The most obvious change is in the waistline. Finding maternity clothes is a frustrating task. Additionally a pregnancy during the summer only compounds the problem. It is hard enough to find a tank top that you love, but with a growing belly it seems next to impossible. Locating that perfect maternity tank doesn’t have to be a daunting task. You can be comfortable and happy with a tank that is perfect for your pregnant body. Let us look at three options, their positive and negative points, and you decide what makes the best fit for you.

The first option is a maternity tank. With a tank made specifically for a pregnant woman you get a tailored fit. These tanks are made flared to accustom your growing belly, yet fitted in the bust so as not to give a frumpy look. Most maternity tanks come with the option of flaps or slits so to help make breastfeeding easier. You can find a maternity tank at a department store or in a mall specialty store. The styles available mimic the styles of non-maternity tanks, so you can be chic in your pregnancy. For those of you on a tight budget you may cringe at the thought of spending upwards of $30 or $40 for a top you can only wear a few months and then never use again. There is also a chance of confusion in sizing. Often it is recommended that you base the size of your maternity clothes on the size of your normal clothes, but this doesn’t always work as some women may end up a bit larger than expected. If you are not on a tight budget, have a good idea about maternity sizing, and want to be stylish than go for a maternity tank.

Another option for those who want more out of a maternity tank for a little less money is taking a look in the men’s department. After the baby comes you can still wear the tank because a trip through the dryer will shrink it right back down to its beginning size. The problem with making sure it will fit in 4 or 5 months is eliminated due to the very stretchy fabric. You won’t have to spend much as you can easily find a package of three for around $10 at a department store. Unfortunately there are no options of fit as men’s tanks are cut straight and will simply hug your body. You will also want to pay attention to the armholes as they are usually cut lower than women’s styles and you may need to wear an additional shirt underneath. The color choices are mainly limited to gray, white, red or blue. If price, not style is your main concern take a walk to the men’s department.

For those crafty moms-to-be you may want to try sewing your own maternity tank. For the price of a pattern and some fabric you can have a custom made tank. With making you own you get to choose the style, the color and perfect the fit. The most important factor here is that you can sew and want to spend the time to make the tank. Sizing can be a problem as you have to wait until you are ready to wear the top before making it so you can get the exact measurements. The fit you get, though, will be well worth the wait. Try your hand at sewing your own maternity tank if you want an inexpensive option with the perfect fit and style for you.

So there you have it - three options for finding your perfect maternity tank. The maternity tank offers tailored fit, and style, but can be pricey. A man’s tank can be an inexpensive option that will be able to be used after pregnancy, but doesn’t offer much in the way of color and style. For those who are handy with a sewing machine making your own maternity tank can result in getting the perfect fit with everything just the way you want. Whatever your choice, finding the perfect maternity tank need not be nerve-wracking. Just know what you want before you hit the store and you will be in and out in a matter of minutes.
