How to shape eyebrows in a perfect arch

By following a few simple guidelines it is possible to create the perfect arch to your own eyebrows.

Shaping the perfect arch to your eyebrow is one of the best non surgical ways to transform the look of your face and give you an instant lift. Shaping your own brows need not be intimidating. By following the few simple guidelines below you will have gorgeous brows that will make your eyes look more open, awake, and alert. Every woman’s dream.

Choosing a method: The first step to transforming the look of your eyebrows is to decide which method of hair removal to use. For the eyebrows the decision is usually between waxing and tweezing. The former is very difficult to handle if you are inexperienced, one wrong move and you may end up with half of your eyebrow on a linen strip! Additionally most high end day spas actually prefer tweezing to waxing as it creates a more precise arch, and they charge more for this extra service. For these reasons, the rest of this article will focus on tweezing as the preferred method of shaping brows.

What you will need: Many women will have the supplies they need to successfully shape their brows at home already but some of us might require a trip to our local drug or discount store. You will need…1) a good quality tweezers, ideally with a slanted tip. This tool need not be expensive; you can spend as little as four dollars or as much as fifty. Some of the more moderately to high priced models may come with warranties that offer free sharpening services. It is your choice as to whether you feel this is beneficial. Personally, I tend to occasionally misplace my tweezers so I tend towards inexpensive replacements. If you have long, bushy eyebrows you may want to pick up a small pair of cuticle scissors for trimming, more on that latter. 2) An eyebrow brush which is usually combined with an eyelash separator. An alternative option to an eyebrow brush is to thoroughly wash an old mascara applicator. I then give the wand a ninety degree bend where the bristles begin. 3) A white eyeliner pencil. This is particularly helpful for the beginner, but more about that later.

To begin: First using your eyebrow brush or old mascara brush out your eyebrow, in a slightly upward fashion. With the use of a straightedge, I recommend a pencil, and the white eyebrow pencil you will be making three marks on your left eyebrow. 1) Place the straightedge vertically at the edge of your left nostril, pointing up towards your left eyebrow. This point should be wear your left eyebrow should begin, mark it with the white eyeliner pencil. 2) Now rotate the straightedge so that it passes through the iris of your left eye and touches the side of your left nostril. Mark with the white pencil where the straightedge reaches your eyebrow. This is the point where your arch should be the highest. 3) Rotate the straightedge so that lines up with your left nostril and the outer corner of your left eye. The point in which it passes through your eyebrow should be where your ideal brow ends, mark it with the white pencil. At this point you have the three necessary points you will need to create the perfect arch, but only on your left brow! Repeat the above procedure on your right eye, and try not to go out into public; you have white marks all over your face!

Okay now that you look like a makeup experiment gone bad you may begin the part in which you actually get to tweeze. Yes it does hurt, but just stick to only pulling at one hair at a time and you should be fine. If you are particularly sensitive you may want to pop a few aspirin up to a half an hour prior to any tweezing activity. Make sure you have good lighting. To get you started you may tweeze any hairs that lie between the two inside white marks you made on both of your eyebrows, this rids you of the dreaded “unabrow.” Now that you now have two separate brows take your handy white pencil and draw an arch below both of your brows, connecting the three marks you have made. Be conservative, working with the line of your natural brow, skinny eyebrows do not look good on most while fuller brows do a better job of bringing out your eyes. When you are satisfied with the shape that you have created, tweeze each hair falling outside of the line. Now tweeze any stray hairs above your brow line, but be careful, the goal is to draw you eyebrows up, not down.

If you have decided that your brows need a little trimming use your brow brush to hold your brows up in a vertical line. Do this in small sections carefully trimming the hairs that do not follow the line of your arch. Trim little by little, you do not want your eyebrows to look like stubble! Finish by brushing out your brows and checking for any strays. You now have the perfect arch!
