10 simple wedding or prom looks with curls in short hair

I will give several styling options for short, curly hair that are simple and creative.

Typically short, curly hair is bemoaned by women seeking styling options for an event such as a wedding or formal occasion. Should you not have the opportunity to grow out your locks in time though, I will suggest some styling options that will help play up texture and create a unique impression.

One option for a polished look that gives a smooth sophisticated look is gathering the hair to the crown.

You will want to do this while slightly damp. Comb the hair into place with a fine toothed comb, incorporating a heavy gel. The hair may be held back in combs or a stretchy invisible band, depending upon length. You may also incorporate a velvet band. Since you are dealing with short hair, this will leave curls gathered at the back. Scrunching, while damp can really play them up. This gives an interesting contrast in texture. Pinning with Bobbies can also play down the curls. This can be done in the sort of classic pin curl fashion, thus leaving a more sleek and tamed look. The hair should be fixed with a heavy-duty spray to give shine and freeze the style. Use more than you usually would, so it holds up through the event. Another way is to find a 40s style net to hold the curls in the back. This is an easy solution, and can usually be found at the local beauty store.

Another solution is to really play up curl and texture. While hair is slightly damp, it can be scrunched with mouse or a curl enhancing lotion. Dry with a blow dryer upside down to play up volume. Stray curls can be smoothed with a small curling iron when dry. This will give the curls more definition. Small ornaments or flowers can be interspersed throughout. This gives a youthful, more playful look. This is one option that can easily be achieved at home without the aid of a stylist.

Hair might also be pulled up on the sides with anchoring combs. This leaves the sides smooth and straight with the curls gathered at the top. This can be a very sophisticated and unique look. Scrunch as usual, but when still damp, pull the sides upward and lock into place with the combs. They are left unnoticed because they lock into the hair. They can be found at your local drugstore or retail outlet. Goody makes them in a tortoise shell pattern, which is attractive and inexpensive. This is another option you should have no trouble with on your own.

Depending upon length, the hair can be ironed flat or combed straight with a heated comb. I would leave this up to a stylist, as the hair is short and can be easily damaged with excessive heat styling. This is another polished look for a more elegant occasion.

Winding the hair into coils and then pinning gives an edgy more youthful look. This is also relatively easy and can be augmented with faux pearls, or other glittery hair accessory. The hair is twisted all throughout, in tight coils and then pinned down with Bobbies or styling pins.

Another way is to flatten the top with gel and a good comb, and leave the curl flipping out at the sides and back. This can also be augmented with a good curling iron to define ends. You will need heavy hold on the top to keep in polished and flat. This canĂ¯Â¿Â½t be achieved with extremely short hair, but works on some.

If hair is extremely short, the best option is to play up curl, to give more of an impression of volume. Pick it out when damp with a good curl pick, and simply spay at the root. You may want to consider some type of gauzy hair wrap or a simple tiara like ornament to add glamour.

For a prom, or a less formal occasion, hair can be gathered into small knots, using tiny invisible elastic bands. These can be interwoven with ribbon, and other hair ornaments. This is a look that is more whimsical, and youth oriented. Again this can be easily done at home, with the aide of a good spray which will anchor it.

Straightening with a comb and gathering the hair to the back of the head can give a severe more formal look. This is best done at a salon with a commercial dryer, as it helps freeze the hair in place. This also requires the use of a professional straightening balm. You want to get the smoothest hair possible if opting for this, so a laminating gloss or spray might be used. This polished look is excellent for brunettes as the hair is given a shine that the light plays well off of. The very ends of the hair at the neck may also be slightly curled out with an iron.

Quality hairpieces that are carefully selected to match color and texture can also augment short hair. These can be purchased at the local beauty store. Your stylist will pin and anchor them accordingly, allowing for some fun options. You can achieve a long pony, or a pinned up elaborate do.

This leaves options open for creative play, and gives you many exciting choices.

All in all there are more ways to style short curly hair than you may think. If doing this yourself it is vital to experiment beforehand or consult your stylist for a practice session. This will prevent last minute flubs, and leave you feeling more confident!
