Unique wedding gift ideas

If you're at a loss for a great wedding gift idea, here are a few suggestions for gifts of a more unique nature.

People are often scrambling to find just the right gift for newlyweds. Depending upon their circumstances, they may already have many of the items that were more commonly given as wedding gifts in days gone by. If the couple for whom you’re shopping possesses a blender, coffee maker, cappuccino machine or any other appliance that might be offered on their wedding day, here are some suggestions for gifts of a more unique nature that can be found in gift stores, specialty catalogues or through online merchants.

Consider a signature platter. This item appears to be a standard serving platter, but comes with a special black marker which has been designed for use on its surface. Wedding guests place their signatures on the plate and, when they’re ready to do so, the newly married couple can fire it in their oven for approximately a half hour in order to get the signatures to set. One alternative would be for the Maid of Honor or some other member of the wedding party or family to complete the firing process during the honeymoon and present it to the couple upon their return.

Capture the memory of the couple’s wedding with a sculpture of their wedding invitation. These are typically created by etching the particulars of the invitation into a Lucite tablet which rests on its own stand, for a lasting keepsake of their special day that can be displayed on a table or chest for all to see. Due to the material that’s used, these are also very durable and should last for many years.

A wedding clock makes a nice personalized keepsake. These are available in a variety of designs and materials, but are often made from lead crystal. A plate can be included on the front with the names and wedding date engraved on it, making this beautiful gift a showpiece for their home. Appropriate wedding text – often a poem – is sometimes etched into the front panel of the clock, as well.

The newlyweds will remember the events of their special day for years to come when they receive the gift of a Wedding Time Capsule. This kit comes complete with all of the necessary tools to memorialize their wedding day, including stationery so that the bride and groom can write a letter that’s designed to be opened at a designated time in the future. Once the capsule is sealed, it can be stored until a pre-determined date – such as their 50th anniversary – when the couple reopens it and shares their first day together once more.

If the bride and groom already own their own home or are in the process of buying one, give the gift of a brass doorknocker, complete with their surname engraved on the face. This is both handsome and practical, and will definitely not be one of those wedding presents that gets stored in the basement or attic and forgotten!

A wine rack or wooden wine box makes the perfect gift for couples who do a lot of entertaining. Either of these makes a beautiful presentation in the home while it provides a tidy storage space for those unwieldy bottles. Along the same lines is the bottle rest for those times when the wine is in the process of being enjoyed by guests (or the newlyweds themselves), but the bottle is not yet empty and needs a place to “rest” in between servings.

For those days in the sun, consider presenting the bride and groom with a picnic backpack. This wonderful ensemble comes complete with everything that the couple will need to enjoy a leisurely picnic in the country, at the park, or even in front of a winter fireplace! Everything is stored in appropriate compartments within the interior of the backpack, making it convenient to remove or replace any of the tools at a moment’s notice without the frustration of digging through the contents.

If you’re artistic – or know someone who is – put a collage together that features the couple’s history together. This can include photographs, prom tickets (if they were high school sweethearts), their wedding invitation, and any number of items that may be an appropriate expression of the times that they’ve shared. The benefit to this gift is that you can use your imagination and include as much or as little as you’d like, depending upon the size of the collage.

There are a number of gift ideas that can be pursued for seasonal weddings, such as those which take place around the Christmas holiday. For these ideas, and many others, contact a wedding consultant or gift store representative. Memorable gifts can be purchased to fit nearly every budget.
