Lincoln is in southeast corner of Nebraska and has approximately 232,000 people including a large Vietnamese population. The original settlers came to the area came from Lancaster, Pennsylvania to mine salt. After they realized the Salt Creek did not have much salt in it, the university was started. Then the city began to grow because of the university, and then when Lincoln became the state capital, the city remained primarily a university and government city. The Lincoln Library is located downtown and has internet access so visitors can look up information about the city. The visitor's center is located at 201 North Seventh and has maps and information as well. You could also call us for information at 1-800-423-8212.
