About Lipozene

By Nacie Carson

  • Overview

Lipozene is a dietary supplement that claims to promote weight loss without requiring users to change their food or exercise habits. The product and its professed results have not been reviewed or sanctioned by the FDA. While several customers have had positive results using this supplement, the general user feedback has been negative and not supportive.
  • Function

Lipozene claims to help customers lose weight, specifically by decreasing body fat. The trial pack of Lipozene is offered to new customers for about $30, which includes two fifteen-day bottles. Users are encouraged to take two capsules 30 minutes before each meal along with a large glass of water. Taking more than six capsules a day is strongly discouraged.
  • Ingredients

Lipozene is essentially just a fiber pill. Its only active ingredient is glucomannan, a form of dietary fiber that assists digestion and natural cleansing of intestinal plaque. Unlike many diet supplements that contain harmful agents such as ephedrine, Lipozene is 100 percent natural. However, it is not recommended that women who are pregnant or nursing use Lipozene because the excess fiber moves many valuable nutrients through the intestinal tract before they have been properly absorbed.

  • Manufacturer

Lipozene is a made by The Obesity Research Institute, LLC, a California-based company that specializes in dietary supplements. Lipozene was first released in 2006 and was promoted primarily through infomercials and radio and television commercials. The Obesity Research Institute has come under physician and consumer criticism for their misleading advertising regarding Lipozene, including deceptive and confusing graphics. Many critics also complain that the name of the company is misleading because it suggests a medical affiliation.
  • Side Effects

The Obesity Research Institute claims there are no side effects to Lipozene; however, the fiber content may cause some unwanted results, especially for individuals who were not receiving enough fiber in their diets before starting Lipozene. Common side effects include stomach cramps, diarrhea, nausea, increased gas and bloating. These effects can be decreased by building up the dosage of Lipozene over time, starting with only a few capsules a day and gradually adding more in until the maximum daily dose is reached.
  • Customer Reviews

Customer reviews of Lipozene have generally not been favorable. Many customers complain that they experienced severe nausea, vomiting and rashes when taking the product, and there have been several reports of the pills not being digested and passing through the intestines whole. Customers have also experienced issues with the billing and service department at The Obesity Research Institute, such as refused refunds and unauthorized billing.
