In elementary school a locker is basically just a place to store a coat, hat and boots; however, in middle school, a locker takes on an important additional function. In middle school students store the books for their different classes in their lockers. Because of this, students visit their lockers between classes throughout the day to drop off books from one class and pick up books for the next class. With the increased function and use of lockers in middle school, having the right locker tools and accessories can help a school day flow more smoothly.
  • Communication

With the new responsibilities of middle school, it is important for students to have a way to communicate messages to themselves. A couple of locker tools that are available for communication are magnetic dry erase boards and magnetic notepads. A communication tool is a handy way for a student to jot down reminders and information about a daily schedule. The magnetic dry erase boards can be easily erased and updated and a magnetic notepad can be updated by ripping off the top sheet of paper and writing a new note. Dry erase boards will eventually need new markers, and notepads will need to be replaced, though they allow a student to use a pen, pencil or marker.

  • Organization

Middle school students can have up to seven different classes a day. To help keep the numerous books and binders for all of the classes in some sense of order, locker tools for organization are a great help. Expandable locker shelves, stacking shelves, hanging shelves and magnetic storage bins are some of the options. Shelves can be used for books and binders and can be organized by subject. Magnetic storage bins are ideal for holding pens, pencils, keys and cell phones. Basically, the more that can be kept off of the floor of the locker, the easier it is to organize.

  • Cleanliness

For middle school students, keeping a locker clean is another factor in helping to keep it organized and easy to use. There are a couple of locker tools that can be used to promote cleanliness. Hanging locker pockets are an easy place to organize loose papers, rather than having them get crushed on the floor of the locker or smashed between books. Additionally, a hanging waste bag will keep garbage form collecting on the floor.

  • Social Life

Middle school is usually when the social life of students kicks into high gear, and there are locker tools that can help with a student's active social life. Magnetic mirrors in a locker come in handy for boys to check their hair and for girls to check their hair and make-up. These mirrors are perfect for when a student does not have time to make it to the bathroom in between classes. Also, the magnetic storage bins mentioned previously can function to hold a comb and brush as well as lip gloss, blush and powder. Another aspect of social life for a middle schooler is trading pictures. Magnetic picture frames work well for displaying pictures of classmates.

  • Entertainment

The time spent at a locker between classes should also be considered a respite from the rigor of classes for a middle school student. One way to make this little break between classes more enjoyable is to have locker accessories that provide entertainment. Magnetic locker buddies are little stuffed animals that are sure to bring on a smile. There are also magnetic animal-faced pen holders with many different animals from which to choose. And, for a pleasant smelling locker there are locker scents in animal and sports shapes. Additionally, magnets can be used to hold up pictures of favorite athletes, actors and other celebrities.
