Well I would say white to black belt should take about 4-5 years. You probably get each belt a little sooner in the beginning and it slows up towards the end. You know you might get your first belt in 3 or 4 months and depending on how many belts there are. Some styles have 12 belts up to black. Some styles may only have three, so of course if it is only three; it is going to take you a little longer. The important thing I think the people to see is white or black should take at least four to five years.
It is almost like getting like a degree in school, you know you can't really get a four year degree in a year. Even if you are a genius, you are going to miss the social growth over four years so you can't rush it. Remember, martial arts teach you patience. If somebody says well, I learned patience faster than you, they probably missed the boat.
So I would say that you know it takes 4-5 years to get to the black belt probably more of a legitimate school.
