The defining moment that sparked inspiration in Lucien Pellat-Finet was when he saw a cashmere sweater hanging in a boutique window in Southern France. From here, Pellat-Finet's design career ignited and led him on a fashion journey that would eventually have him crowned as the "King of Cashmere".

Before receiving recognition as a prominent designer, Pellat-Finet worked in the fashion industry as a freelancer. It was not until 1994 when he released his first collection of cashmere sweaters. His pieces included a set of ten 4-ply knit sweaters that he began to sell around New York. They gained immediate acceptance as well as a cult following throughout the tail end of the 90's. In 1996, he released his first men's line that was followed the next year by his first runway show. Making full use out of the fashion momentum he had garnered, he produced his first prêt á porter line of 2-ply knits at the boutique "Colette". The consistent magnificence that was associated with Pellat-Finet's product soon gained worldwide popularity within the realm of fashion connoisseurs. The iconic symbols included on many of his sweaters soon became synonymous with his name. While keeping with his fine cashmere products, he introduced new lines of products that had the same luxurious quality. Some of his new items included 100% Egyptian cotton t-shirts, a line of jersey satin products, "tailleur" dresses and cardigans donned with suede and leather. As he began to gain more popularity in the fashion pool, he began to develop even more urban pieces of elegance such bathing suits, cashmere blankets and environmentally friendly jeans dyed with organic vegetables. In 1998, he took his suitable designs and created a fun collection for kids. His merchandise is crafted with an extreme amount of stylistic detail. The cashmere sweaters have gained such a great ovation that he has created a system to where you can order a custom piece based on your preference of color combination.

While receiving such praise from the world, Pellat-Finet's fashion ventures took him to Japan, where he began to distribute in 2001. The year after, he opened a boutique in the trendy Aoyama district of Tokyo. His far east excursion brought about collaboration with Japanese artist Takashi Murakami. Together, they developed the "two magic mushroom" design for his sweaters.

Without a doubt, Pellat-Finet is well known for his intuitive use of the lavish material called cashmere. He tends to maintain the model look of the basic sweater and adds his own contemporary touch. Each of his sweaters and other products individually take on characteristics all on their own. His trademark graphics include peace signs, Buddhas, cannibus leaves, skulls, crosses as well as other quirky icons and prints.
