Step 1
Measure the window where the curtains will hang before shopping for the curtains. Take measurements for the inside of the window, to hang curtains cafe style. Also take measurements for the window frames. Having both measurements on hand will help you pick the right rods when you shop online or in a store.
-
Step 2
Consider the types of magnetic rods that are available. Some have holders which attach to the window frame; these are sash style. Sash-style rods may be thin, which will work for some curtains. Others are wide and will only fit into curtains with wide pockets. The rods rest or are clasped into these holders. Other rods will adjust from a spring on the inside and stretch out to meet the interior panes of the window, with magnetic edges.
-
Step 3
Buying the curtains and the rods at the same time will save you the trouble of not having them fit together right, be the right length, or match each other in terms of style. When you buy the curtains at the same time you buy the rods, you can also check to see if the rod will fit into the curtain's opening at the top, without having to take it apart and resew it.

Step 4
Shop for magnetic curtain rods in the houseware section of the local discount or department store. Check the window treatment sections for the rods, some of which will be found next to other adjustable rods. Home improvement stores also have window treatment sections and offer a variety of window treatment options, including magnetic curtain rods.

Step 5
Check the local fabric stores where people buy fabric to make their own curtains. The fabric section at the local arts and crafts store or any local interior decorating or curtain shop may also carry magnetic curtain rods.
