You are always going to have some form of maintenance, be it fertilization or minor weeding. Use a good heavy contracted grade of weeds fabric. We use it on quite a few of our jobs. You put the plant material in it. Do your preventative steps of getting everything poisoned and removed. Then use what is called a pre-emergent. It helps to prevent weed seeds from germinating or opening up and producing a sprout. A use of pre-emergent and weed fabric will keep the weeds under control. Come in periodically, according to your maintenance schedule, and use pre-emergent. There should be a post-emergent, killing the weeds that exist while simultaneously using the pre-emergent. That will prevent weeds from coming up. So you keep the weeds at bay and then you have your sprinkler system working. The only other thing will be, depending on the plants, pulling the grass back or pulling the lantana back. You pinch off flowers that have already budded out and bloomed.
