I would start with the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. It has one of the major collections of modern and contemporary art in the United States.

The Buffalo Zoo is one of the oldest zoos in the United States. It recently added a sea lion exhibit and a South American rain forest exhibit is under construction. It sits on 23 acres in Delaware Park, which was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted and is open year around. You can also see American buffalo roaming in their habitat there at the zoo. It's a very family friendly, nicely done, small zoo.

There's also the Darwin Martin House, which was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and is considered one of the major residential works that Wright designed. It is currently undergoing a $30 million restoration. The building is about 30,000 square feet and they say it's the only residential complex that Wright ever designed - it's a series of interconnected buildings.

Only a 20-minute drive away is Niagara Falls, which of course is one of the greatest tourist attractions in the entire world. The best place to see it is in the Niagara Falls Reservation State Park, which is in Niagara Falls, New York. It's the oldest state park in the United States and was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted. He was the landscape architect who designed Central Park in New York City. He also designed Buffalo's Park System, which is a series of parkways that connect the parks in Buffalo. It is one of the most distinctive features of the city.

We also have the Roycraft campus east of Aurora, which is half an hour from downtown Buffalo. This was the birthplace of the American Arts and Crafts Movement and it dates to the 1890's. There was a really communal situation on campus where groups of artisans, craftsmen, wood workers, tinsmith, and bookbinders all lived and worked together to create beautiful handcrafted objects. The inn has been restored in recent years and the campus itself is undergoing a major restoration. The hope is to return it to being an active community of artists as it was back in its heyday at the turn of the century.

We also have a major performing arts center here, Shea's Performing Art Center, which is a 3000-seat European style opera house that dates back to the 1920's. It too has been lavishly restored and has seen several major Broadway touring productions.

At the turn of the century, Buffalo was one of the wealthiest, most prosperous cities in America and there is some amazing architecture here by some of the greatest architects in the world at that time, people like Frank Lloyd Wright, Louis Sullivan, H. H. Richardson, and Daniel Burnham. Buffalo and Chicago are the only cities in the United States that have buildings designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, Louis Sullivan, and H. H. Richardson. We are really putting an emphasis on architectural and cultural tourism. Buffalo is a great destination for people who are interested in art and architecture.
