How to Make Business Cards & Fliers

    Business cards and fliers assist in promoting your business. You can increase your profits with advertisement through simple fliers. Business cards are a main source in word-of-mouth business for your products or services. You will gain new clients and help your previous customers to come back for more. There is no need to spend countless amounts of your profit to create these tools. You can make business cards and fliers for pennies on the dollar.
  • Business Cards

  • Step 1

    Open Microsoft Word. Most companies have this program already in use. However, if you do not, you can purchase or obtain a free copy of business cards or flier creators. Download.com offers these types of programs such as Advanced Business Card Maker, Label Maker Plus and Small Business Publisher. If you use a program other than Microsoft Word, the directions may vary.
  • Step 2

    Click the "Page Layout" tab on the top of the screen. In the "Page Setup" section, click on "Size." On the bottom of that option, choose "More Paper Sizes." Here you will customize your business card height and width. Choose the "Paper" tab. Click on the arrow to select the type of paper you want. For a standard measurement choose "Width: 3"" and "Height: 2."" Go to the "Margin" tab. Change the margins and orientation. The orientation should be "Landscape." All margins are set to "0." Click "Ok".

    Move over to the next option, "Page Background." Here you will change the business card background. Click on "Page Color." You can choose various colors for you card. Choose "Fill Effects" to have a texture on your business card instead of a solid palate. Decide on the color or texture by clicking on it. You can use the texture option to have your own logo or picture as the background by clicking "Other Texture" and choosing the image.

    Insert a logo or clip art onto your business card. Click "Insert" on the toolbar. In the illustrations tab, you can choose to enter your own picture, shapes or clip art. If you do not have an image, you can download free images from online resources.

    Click on "Home" to add text to your business card. In the "Font" section, use the long bar drop-down menu to choose the font you wish to display. Right next to it, change the size. Underneath the font, you can choose to use bold, italic or underline lettering. The letter with the color line underneath is the text color. Add any information as well as a slogan or sales pitch to your business card.

    Click the disk icon on the top of the screen. Save your business card.
  • Fliers

    • Step 1

      Download a flier template for Microsoft word. You can find free fliers from several locations around the Internet, including Microsoft's official Website. Flier templates are simple to download and you can change every aspect in about five minutes.

      Click on the flier in your download folder. The template will appear in Microsoft Word. Then you can begin editing.
    • Step 3

      Change the color scheme. If you want certain pieces of the flier different colors, select "Insert." Then under illustrations, choose "Shapes." You can add different styles to your flier by using the shapes. When the shape is on the flier, right click. Use "Format Auto Shape" to change the colors. You can have a border, shading or change the size. If you want the full flier one solid color, click "Page Layout." Under the tab "Page Background," choose "Page Color."
    • Step 4

      Insert pictures or images that you wish to display. Click on the "Insert" tab. Under illustrations, select "Clip Art" or Picture." Choose an image and view the "Arrange" tab. You will have the option to move the picture with "Position". Align in the center or to the left and right. Bring the picture forward over the text or behind the wording.
    • Step 5

      Click "Home" to change the text. Select the font and the size of the text. Certain wording may have a larger font than others. You can also decide to use the same size and font for the entire flier. Change the font color to stand out from the background image or color.

      Click on the disk icon on the top of the page to save your flier.

    • Tip: Remember to use eye-friendly background and text colors.
    • Tip: Experiment with different textures, styles and options for the type of message you want to display about your company. Also, if the measurements of the business card are unacceptable for what you need, change the height and width of the card.
    • Tip: Print the business cards on durable printing paper. Use any type of paper for the fliers. Look at the package of paper before you purchase for business cards or flier type.
