Make Homemade Body Spray

Four recipes ranging from bug spray to glitter body spray that can easily be made at home in your spare time.

Have you ever wanted to have a perfume or scented spray different from those around you?Did you want your scent to express your uniqueness?Have you considered making a new body spray in your home, but decided against it because of the cost and time involved?

If you answered yes to any of the above questions, the art of making homemade body sprays is for you! Making body spray doesn't have to be costly and time consuming""it can be fun and rewarding.First you will need a bottle of your choice.It can be as big or small as you like, but make sure the spray is not extremely large (you want a slight mist, not a downpour).If you are feeling extra creative, decorate your bottle or make a homemade label for your new creation.

Once you have decided on the proper storage for your spray, decide on a recipe that is right for you. Choose from one of the recipes below, or create your own masterpiece.

Recipe #1""A Simple Spray

This recipe creates a very simple spray.Add essential oils to a bottle of distilled water and shake well.You can use as little or as much oil as you would like, but if using pure essential oils please regard all safety instructions.

To example this simple recipe and create a beautiful piece for your bathroom, add fresh herbs to the bottles.

Recipe #2""A Family Affair

For this large recipe you will need the following ingredients:

1 gallon distilled water

½ cup Epson salt

½ cup water softener

Fragrance oil(s) of your choice (Found at your local beauty supply or craft store.Check the bottle to see if they are safe for the human body).

Step One:Add the Epsom salt and water softener to the distilled water and allow the salts to dissolve completely.

Step Two:Pour the mixture into your desired bottle.

Step Three:Add one tablespoon of fragrance oil for every 8 ounces of liquid.

Step Four: Shake!

This recipe is great for quick and easy gifts because it makes a large amount of body spray at one time. Make a large batch to give for family presents at Christmas or for favors at a party. The only drawback is in the fragrance oils""most will not dissolve completely into the liquid.Using opaque bottles will solve this problem, but remember to shake well before each use.

Recipe #3""Natural Bug Spray

8ozDistilled Water

1 tspLemongrass Essential Oil

2 tspGlycerin

1/2 tsp Citronella Essential Oil

Mix the ingredients and pour the finish product into 8 ounce bottle, or mix it up right in the bottles of your choice.Shake well before each use and never have to sacrifice a pleasant scent for protection from insects.

Recipe #4""Glitter Spray


4 oz. 39C denatured or grain alcohol

4 oz. distilled water

1 tsp. glycerin

2 tsp. fragrance oil

1/2 tsp. mica powder or fine glitter

1-2 drops food coloring

Slowly dissolve the fragrance oil of your choice into the alcohol.When completely dissolved, add the other ingredients.Mica powder is available at your local craft supply store, but fine glitter would also achieve the same effect in the spray.

Shake well before each use and mist your entire body for a glittery shine.

Remember""once you have some knowledge about the scents you prefer you can alter these recipes to fit your needs.Experiment with your own scent combinations and move on to aromatherapy scents when you are feeling more experienced.
