It is quick and simple to make your own pre wash hot oil treatment. Warm 2 ounces of olive oil in a microwave or in a small sauce pan.In a small jar mix together three drops of each essential oil rosemary, lavender and ylang-ylang. Funnel the warmed olive oil into the jar.Cover the jar and shake to mix the oils together.Apply to wet hair, then wrap hair in a warm towel.After fifteen minutes, wash the pre wash oil out of your hair with shampoo. You can then store any unused oil in a sealed jar.

How to make your own natural hair shampoo.

A good shampoo is ph balanced and protein enriched.For a quick recipe you can purchase an unscented shampoo and add natural ingredients to create a shampoo designed for your hair type.You can create your own shampoo base by using grated soap mixed with water.Mixing essential oils adds aromatherapy to your shampoo.Also adding herbal infused water adds the benefits of the herbs to your shampoo. I will list the essential oils and the herbs with their therapeutic properties to help you decide what types to use.

Directions to make a natural shampoo base.

Use a clean plastic bottle with a spout lid to store shampoo in.Also you can use a used plastic shampoo bottle for this.Just wash out the used plastic shampoo bottle well before reusing. Mix all ingredients in a bowl that you will not need to use for preparing food.Essential oils tend to linger, you don't want your food tasting like your essential oils.To grate the soap you can use a cheese grater again do not reuse for food.Keep all of the tools you use for making your natural products separate from your cooking ware.



Below is a recipe to make a basic shampoo base for a fourteen ounce plastic bottle.You will need the following ingredients.

Two cups of distilled water.

One cup of grated soap, such as castile or any other naturally processed soap.

One teaspoon of vitamin E oil.

One teaspoon of oil, such as olive oil or jojoba oil.

ΒΌ cup of glycerin (available in the most drug stores).

Optional, you can add one teaspoon of pectin to add thickness to shampoo mixture.

Bring two cups of distilled water to a boil.Pour hot water in to bowl, then slowly add grated soap.Let mixture rest for about ten minutes, long enough for soap to become soft.Using a wooden spoon mix in the rest of the ingredients and let mixture rest again until slightly cooled.At this point you can add essential oils.If you add the essential oils to mixture when it is to hot the oils will evaporate with the steam.If using more then one essential oil or fragrance oil, mix oils together prior to adding them to the shampoo mixture.

How to use herbs in your shampoo recipes.

If you want to use herb in your shampoo, add a handful of fresh herbs to water while it is boiling.Strain herbs from water while you pour water into bowl.

Below is a list of essential oils and herbs to use.

To prevent hair loss and a dry itchy scalp use one of the following herbs.

Rosemary, Aloe, Arnica, Burdock, Horsetail, Marigold and Southernwood.

To strengthen hair use a handful of horsetail.

The following essential oils can be used as the above herbs.Bay, birch, chamomile, coriander, cypress, ginger, grapefruit, juniper, lavender, Melissa (lemon balm), sweet orange, palmarosa, patchouli, rose, rosemary, sage, tea tree, and ylang ylang.

Sage will enhances dark hair. Chamomile enhances light hair, combined with natural henna for a deep lightning effect.Rosemary enhances dark hair and brightens dull hair restoring natural beauty.Thyme controls dandruff in all hair types.Nettles conditions all hair types.Saffron enhances red hair and brings out red highlights in other hair colors.Basil adds luster to all hair types.

All natural hair rinse recipe.

Use a hair rinse after shampooing to bring out highlights and to enhance your natural hair color.Place a handful of herbs in one cup of water and bring to a boil.Let cool, strain water in to bottle adding three tablespoons of cider vinegar. Shake bottle to mix well before each use.Pour herbal hair rinse over shampooed hair and leave in. Towel hair dry, and style.
