Recipe and instructions for natural liquid face soap you can make yourself. The soap making process is a little different for liquid soap than it is for bar soap.
Here are some basic steps when making liquid soap:
Measure and weigh potassium hydroxide and add to water (insulate bottom of pot because potassium hydroxide generates a lot of heat)
When water approaches the boiling point, set aside and prepare oils
Measure oils and heat to 120-130F.Water mixture must be the same temperature as oil mixture before you combine. If both mixtures are at the appropriate temperature then combine oil and water solutions.
Blend the combined mixture for 2-3 minutes and rest for 5 minutes and repeat the process until the soap begins to produce trace (when the mixture becomes thick and holds dropped droplets or soap trailing).
After you have a heavy trace place the inner pot in a double broiler and make sure the outer pot is filled with sufficient water (the water level should be the same as the soap level, and you need to keep the water in the outer pan constant).
Check the soap every 15 minutes while cooking and continue to stir in intervals. You should start to see opaque soap curds and free oils; these must be mixed in continually. After the first ½ hour of stirring and checking your mixture you can check it less frequently. The soap will need to cook for 4-6 hours before you get a finished product.
Turning over the soap is extremely important because the soap can trap liquids at the bottom. When the soap is transparent and has not free liquid left it is ready.
To use the mixture as liquid soap you must dissolve it in distilled water. You must remove double broiler from the outer pot and clean out old water. You must insulate soap mixture well to retain heat while you are preparing to boil the new water.Use the outer pot to boil new distilled water, use 2.5 gal of water per 125 oz oil weight in soap base
Once your water is boiling transfer you soap mixture in to 5 gal bucket and the water over it.Stir with a big spoon to break up the soap mass (it doesn't have to be smooth yet).Cover the bucket and insulate it completely, including the bottom. The heating process will dissolve the soap base.Open the bucket once an hour for the first couple of hours then once every 4-8 hours and stir the mixture until it is smooth, this process may take several days.Add more boiling water is you still have soap base that is not smooth. When it is completely dissolved and smooth it is ready to use.Test the soap with a pH test strip. If you want to add essential oils and fragrance you can do so at this point.
Using this process to make your liquid facial soap will help you produce a wonderful product for your facial cleansing needs.
