Step 1
Go to the PayPal site (see Resources) and select the type of account you would like to sign up for: Personal or Business. Many people choose the free Personal account, since it meets most needs.

Click on the "Personal" tab, click "Sign Up" and provide the required personal information. You will have to provide an email address and select a password.

Know that PayPal can mail a check to you for any funds you receive. But if you want to quickly transfer funds directly to your bank, you will need to provide PayPal with the account and routing numbers found at the bottom of one of your checks. To do so, sign in using the password you selected. Then go to My Account and click "Add Bank Account."

Within a few days, expect PayPal to make two small deposits of less than $1 into the bank account you have entered. These deposits serve to verify the account. Log on to PayPal and go to My Account, click on "Get Verified" and enter these two numbers to verify your bank account. You now have a working PayPal account.
