How To Make A Photo Frame Scrapbook Front

Frames are popular with those who love to create scrapbooks but most people put them in the books, not on the books.

Anyone who has an interest in scrapbooks knows that frames are used throughout the book to showcase certain photos. But what about the front of the album? Many people decorate the front of the album with various stickers and papers but few think to showcase photos on the front of the book. The main reasons for this are probably several: most frames are heavy, frames stick up too far or don't lay flat enough, and frames usually have glass which doesn't seem appropriate for the front of a book.

The next time you're shopping take a look at the latest picture frame selections. Some frames are now made from an acrylic-type of material that is clear and resembles glass. These frames are usually made flat and are perfect for scrapbooks fronts. Sometimes the frames have a base stand. These types of frames will not work since the stand is not removable. Look for the type that is more for crafting. They are simple and plain with no stands. These frames have two sheets of acrylic between which the picture is placed. The back of the frame can then be affixed to the front of the scrapbook with glue. What's great about these frames is that stickers look fantastic on them. Using stickers, paints or glitter makes each frame unique to that book. The frames are available in many sizes. Choose one large one to place in the center of the book front or several small ones to put in random areas on the cover.

Any flat frame, whether wooden or another material, will work for a scrapbook front. Some craft stores have small plastic novelty frames which are flat and have metallic-look edges. These frames are approximately three inches by three inches and are available in shapes like hearts, ovals and flowers. The frames have a thin plastic photo cover rather than glass. They are so lightweight that you can use many on the book cover without making the book much heavier. Outline the front perimeter with the frames or use them to make a particular design on the front.

Small charm frames are another way to make your book cover unique. The tiny frames usually measure a mere inch or two on each side. The frames are available in squares, ovals and circles as well as gold and silver tones. Since they are so little you can use literally dozens, if desired. Arrange them in a manner to where they make a monogram or just cover the entire front with them. These frames are also cute to use inside the book for small pictures.

Look around a craft store for more ideas on making photo frames for the front of your scrapbook. There are literally hundreds of small frames from which to choose, most of which can be painted or otherwise decorated. Try colors of pink or blue for a baby's book. Gold is a beautiful choice for a wedding or anniversary scrapbook. Regular white glue is usually all you need to attach the photos to your book.
