How to Make Rubber Bracelets With Words

By Alicia Bodine

  • Overview

You can make low-cost rubber bracelets for yourself, your friends or to sell to your classmates for some extra cash. Adding words to your bracelets gives them more meaning and makes them more valuable if you do plan on selling them. You have several options when it comes to adding words, so choose the method you like the best.
    Rubber Bracelet
    • Step 1

Purchase some thick rubber bands that will fit on your wrist. You can find selections of thick rubber bands at office supply stores (see Resources below).
    • Step 2

Use a permanent marker to spell out your word or words on the front of the rubber band. Go over the word twice with the permanent marker so that it stays dark. Wait for it to dry before wearing.

    • Step 3

Arrange stick-on letters to spell the words on your bracelet. You will need to peel the backing off of each letter and then press the letter hard onto the bracelet.
    • Step 4

Use beaded letters to spell out the words on the bracelet. Arrange them in order and then place some adhesive on the underside of the letter and press onto the bracelet. Apply these one by one, and wait for the adhesive to dry before wearing.
    • Step 5

Cut out your words from some construction paper and glue in place. Don't wear the rubber band bracelet until the glue has dried.
    • Step 6

Bend your pipe cleaners so that each one is a letter. Put the letters together to make your word. Glue them in place on the rubber band, and wait for the glue to dry before you use it. You will need to cut the pipe cleaners to make the letters the right size.
    • Skill: Moderately Easy
    • Ingredients:
    • Thick rubber bands
    • Scissors
    • Adhesive
    • Stick-on letters
    • Permanent markers
    • Beaded letters
    • Construction paper
    • Pipe cleaners
    • Tip: Add some glitter or jewels to either end of your rubber band bracelet to give it some added decorations.
    • Warning:
    • If you used a rubber band from a toy you may need to cut it to fit. If you cut it, you will need to add adhesive to the ends and then clamp it down until the adhesive drys.
