Overview
Link building is a very important part of attracting visitors to a website or blog. It is the process of creating inbound links to content to improve the quality and volume of traffic. It can be a time consuming process, but there is no substitute for building authority with search engines. Most importantly, you should create high-quality content that other sites will want to link to. While you are waiting on those natural links you can use these methods to make your website popular with link building.
-
Step 1
Use reciprocal linking. Create a page or small section on your website or blog to list other websites that you have traded links with. Look for a "links" or "affiliates" section on websites or blogs in your niche. Create a link to the website, then email the webmaster and ask politely if they would be interested in an exchange. Include your URL to show that you have already linked to their site. -
Step 2
Write an article related to the subject matter of your website or blog. Submit to article directories, such as Ezine Articles. Include your name and a link to your website or blog in the author or resources section during your article submission. -
Step 3
Use Web 2.0 sites, such as Squidoo and Hub Pages, to make your website popular with link building. Create a "lens" or "hub" with material related to your website and link back to your site or blog. Include pictures, informative articles and links to other resources. The purpose is to create a back link to your own site but make the content as informative as possible to attract more visitors. -
Step 4
Submit your URL and site description to directories such as DMOZ. Submit to generic directories and any directories specific to your website or blog. This will give you back links and more visitors to your site. -
Step 5
Use social media sites such as Digg, Delicious and Propeller. Create an account and bookmark pages of your site or blog posts with these services to gain back links and increase traffic.
- Skill: Moderately Easy
- Tip: Sometimes blogs and websites will have instructions for linking to them available on their site. Check first before sending an email to request a reciprocal link.
- Tip: There are dozens of article directories that you can submit to. Each one has its own guidelines. Many do not allow direct selling or a product or site. Instead, write an informative article that leads the reader back to your site for more information.
- Warning:
- Do not exchange links with sites that are not related to the subject of your website in some way, or are far outside your niche. This is a worthless practice that will not make your website more popular.
- Do not link to or submit your URL to link farms. This will hurt your reputation with Google and diminish any work you have already done to make your website popular with link building. Link farms are sites that consist of large numbers of links with little content.
