What is massage therapy? Massage therapy is touch therapy used to relieve muscle tension in the body. Well, in a very general sense, the use of touch applied to the body to release tensions in the muscles...
In general, that is what it does. There are a lot of different things that may be hard for a person who is not in the field to understand. But there are a lot of different types of applications that fall under the heading of massage therapy. A massage therapist, or what we call a body worker, is someone who goes beyond the "rub down" type of approach to massage. Depending on who the practitioner is, people know how to do things like work with chiropractors, doctors, physical therapists or whatever to work with people's specific physical problems. For example, therapists work on low back problems and neck and shoulder problems. These therapists not only aid you in feeling better and in pain relief and such, but in the correction of muscle imbalances and posture problems. So that is another level - working with people with different types of diseases and poorly functioning organs. Massage therapy can be helpful if the practitioner knows those skills.
