Maui Mountain Biking Haleakala

Maui mountain biking Haleakala is a pleasure for any biking enthusiast. Riding bicycle's from the top of this mountain to the ocean below is an adventure that you would not want to miss.

Mount Haleakala, which is located on the beautiful and pristine island of Maui, is the world's largest dormant volcano and reaches a height of over 30,000 feet from the bottom of the sea floor. Riding a bicycle from the top of this mountain to the ocean below is an adventure that you would not want to miss on your trip to this tropical island. The tour starts during the dark of night when a courtesy van picks you up where you are staying at around 3:00 in the morning.

Your tour guides will escort you to a base camp where you will be treated to and where you will try to muster up the energy for a donut or Danish and a cup of steaming coffee. Once you've have dined on your complimentary continental breakfast, these well experienced guides then load you back into the van for the hour and a half trip through the up country and on to the top of the mountain. Once you arrive at your final destination, the top of the mountain, you are in for one of the best natural light shows of your life.

Sunrise on the top of Haleakala is breathtaking. As the sun begins to rise the sky seems to go wild with colors of yellow, orange, and red, as they begin to fill the Crater. You can opt to stand in the heated observation deck that has windows from floor to ceiling. Here you will get all the breathtaking views that you would get outside without having the cold damp air to contend with. Or if you feel you are the hearty outdoors type, find a rock or a rail to sit on, and bundle up. Getting up at 3:00 in the morning and shivering in the cold morning air seems suddenly all worth it. Once the sun is up and the show is over, it's off to the bikes that the guides have prepared for you. But before you begin your journey down the mountain, your guides will be sure that you are fitted with a jacket, gloves and helmet, then down the volcano you'll go. As you are coasting down the hill you will enjoy some of the most spectacular scenery of your life. You will be offered plenty of stops for you to enjoy the view and to take lots of pictures.

With an occasional disruption of having to pull over for a car traveling down the same route, the 40 mile trek downhill should go off without a hitch. The views of both sides of the island are spectacular, they will guide you through the cool country regions of the foothills and past many sugar cane fields. You will pass vineyards, wineries, and protea farms that you will probably want to return to at a later date to tour. Your bicycling tour will end at a small local restaurant where they will feed you a hot and sumptuous breakfast.

You'll arrive back at your condo or hotel at around 1:00 p.m., ready for a nap. This is a trip everyone should do at least once. It is a bit expensive at around $100.00 per person, but it well worth the price.
