Michigan Outdoors

Michigan offers a variety of outdoor activities all year long whether you are young or old, you will enjoy all the Michigan has to offer.

Michigan, otherwise known as the Great Lakes State or the Water Wonderland, offers a vast variety of outdoor activities. With four great seasons, you are sure to find an outdoor activity at any time of the year, whether you are young, old, or looking for something that the whole family can enjoy.

In the spring and summer months, more than one quarter of Michigan's 3,200 mile Great Lakes shoreline is open to beach and water activities. Nearly 500 charter fishing boats can be found in the 40,000 square miles of Great Lakes of waters. Why not relax, get a tan, and build a sandcastle at one of the thousands of sandy beaches found at the 11,000 inland lakes? If you prefer dry land, Michigan has approximately 19 million areas of forest, which is almost half the state, and thousands of campsites. Pitch a tent, take a canoe ride, bike ride or long nature hike to view the many water falls spread throughout the Upper Peninsula. If golfing is your passion, Michigan has over 800 golf courses to choose from.

Fall not only brings bright, beautiful colors throughout the state, but it also opens up to the many "u-pick" orchards that include pumpkin patches, apple picking orchards and cider mills. Although I do not prefer it or promote it, there is no denying that hunting is another big past-time favorite in Michigan, especially among men, whether it be bow or rifle.

Winter in Michigan brings snow, and with snow you have the perfect opportunity for skiing at one of the 40 or more ski areas statewide. Slopes at these ski resorts range from 100 to 600 feet high and cater to both beginners and experts alike. For those who would rather stay close to the ground, try snowmobiling or cross-country skiing.

As you can see, there are many reasons to enjoy the great outdoors of Michigan.
