Mirrors are sometimes called the aspirin of Feng Shui, because they do so many things. They are powerful tools in enhancing a space that is dark by bringing light into a room. They also can double whatever your view is that you love. If you have a view of the outdoors, that's beautiful. If you hang a mirror in a certain position you double that view. It doubles your pleasure. It's also representative of the water element, because it is reflective like water is. For example, we suggest using a mirror over the back of the stove, so you double the amount of food you are cooking. There are four units on a stove, typically. It will be doubled to eight units. So, it builds your sense of prosperity. That is one way of using it. Another way of using a mirror is by hanging it on a wall where there is a missing area, which symbolically extends that wall out to the parameter of the missing area.

Another powerful method or use of mirrors is to deflect negative energy. Sometimes when you have negative surrounding energy, for example, unruly neighbors and business co-workers, one plays to either one through walls or the outside. You can place a boggle mirror above the door. It's very powerful in deflecting the negative energy.

Concave mirrors or convex mirrors are used also in situations where you want to see around the corner; for example, for safety or just for expanding spaces that are narrow like a hallway. It is said that the concave mirrors are symbolically boomerang energy. The idea is that we are all interconnected, and so when a negative thought is being sent your way, to the house you live, it has a boomerang effect. That is done in extreme cases.
