Monterey Bay Aquarium was voted the number one aquarium in the country and was voted the number three family attraction behind Disneyland and Sea World. It's very popular and has a strong conservation message. It showcases the animals in really beautiful displays. You wouldn't call them tanks because they are more like exhibits. They focus primarily on the sea life and wildlife of Monterey Bay. They also have special exhibits. The one going on now is called Jellies Co & Living Art, which focuses on jellyfish and the art they inspire. There is also an exhibit called Shark Myth & Mystery, which focuses on sharks. They actually had a great white shark on display at the aquarium for nearly six months last year and it was the first time a white shark had ever been on display longer than 16 days. One of the most popular things at the aquarium is the sea otters, because people can get very close to them at the exhibit. In the summer months they have a program called Under Water Explorers where kids can actually scuba dive in a huge pool. It's a very well run institution and attracts close to two million visitors a year. They showcase their animals in a really innovative way. They really focus on the sustainability of the oceans and conservation of the animals.
