Typically, engineered floors will be cheaper than a solid hardwood floor because of the yield of the material you're using; more wax, more fake products to make a solid floor. The structure is built from cheaper wood species like Poplar, spruce and those kinds of things. So a real engineered flooring is going to be less expensive than solid hardwood flooring, at retail you might be able to find some floors, starting at a $1.99. But I would say an average price for engineered hardwood is going to be in the $3-$3.50 range. Wood solids retail in the $4.50-$5.99 range for typical oak species. When you get into exotic species like Brazilian cherries, Cyprus, African vintages, you can get up in $15 per square foot.
