We are talking about between fifteen hundred and two thousand gallons per person per month indoor use and one of the major areas of water use is the toilet. The toilet is the number one water use in any residential home and it's also the number one place that you might experience a leak. To test your toilet for leaks all you have to do is add some coloring to the toilet tank on the back of the toilet, don't flush the toilet and wait about 5 to10 minutes and then look in the bowl if that coloring is gone from the tank into the bowl, then you have a leaky flapper valve. That flapper valve only cost a few dollars, it takes just a couple of minutes to replace and you could be loosing thousands of gallons of water almost unseen as it passage from the tank into the bowl and then overflows the trap into the sewage system. About one and five residential toilets are leaking at any given time. A flap really lasts for couple of years and most people probably couldn't tell you the last time that they replaced it. So that's an easy place to go to get some water savings.
