The Carson City mint minted the famous Carson City Silver Dollar here from the silver that was mined in Virginia City. It is no longer a US mint, but there is a museum with a collection of the coins for visitors to see.


The Nevada State Museum has a replica of an underground mine and a ghost town. It has a Native American exhibit called Under One Sky, as well as exhibits on the natural history, mining history, and cultural history of the state of Nevada.




The Nevada State Railroad Museum is a collection of restored historic Virginia and Truckee Railroad equipment. They offer rides on the original steam trains over various weekends during the summer.

The Northern Nevada Children's Museum provides hands-on exhibits for children of all ages including a walk-in kaleidoscope and replicas of a grocery store, a hospital emergency room, and a covered wagon.
