We have the Lightner Museum and that has been known as the Smithsonian of the south. It has these wonderful collections of Americana and it has one of the largest collections of American cut glass in the world. It has wonderful collections of things that people used to collect in the 1800s; everything from the match books and buttons to toy soldiers and all that sort of thing. It also has things like Winston Churchill's pet lion's mummy. They have wonderful art on display and it has a huge collection of furniture that goes through the American history based on that kind of furniture that was available at that time. And it's a very inexpensive museum to visit. The city operates St. Augustine's Museum here. The government traces primarily the history of the city of St. Augustine and that's one of the places where they probably show this urban renewal plan that they had and it is dated year 1620; which if you remember your American history is when the first Thanksgiving was held. So when the pilgrims were sitting down with the indians and eating nuts and berries to stay alive, they could have come down to St. Augustine and seen our nice shops and nice homes that have been here for 50 years. So, that's a good one. There is also the St. Augustine historical society museum at the oldest house, which again gives you a wonderful overview of the long history of St. Augustine. The Florida National Guard is headquartered here in St. Augustine, which is kind of unusual because most national guards have their headquarters in the state capital. The very first national guard units that we had here in Florida actually date back to the 1700s, when the Spanish government established a national guard that was made of almost entirely escaped slaves from the northern colonies. If they could get to Spanish Florida, they were given their freedom and generally put in the National Guard. So they recognize this as the first guardsman. The St. Augustine's light house has a museum that's mostly interactive. There are great things for kids like learning to tie different kinds of knots and learning how they carried oil to the top of the light house. For the next couple of years, it has a major exhibit on St. Augustine in World War II and the German U-boats. The St. Augustine's Art Association has an art museum that is very popular. There are a lot of museum type opportunities.
