We have several historic sites that include museum type exhibits and we also have the Ortega Adobe, which is the home to the Ortega family, as in Ortega chilies and Ortega Mexican food. Then we have the actual Ventura County Museum of History and Art, which is located on the west end of downtown. Across the street is the Albinger Museum of History, which is an archaeological museum and it's primary subject matter is Native American Schumash Indian and Spanish history related to the mission development along the west coast. In fact, our mission is still intact and functioning as a church.

Our downtown is full of Mission era buildings and quite a bit of a Victorian era. Unlike much of the rest of the country, we did not suffer many of the effects of the depression because we were both an oil producing and agriculturally producing community and the rest of the country really depended on those industries, so we didn't go through a lot of those slow downs in construction.

There are tour guides available who will provide tours of the mission or of the greater community including the mission and we have also printed guides for self-guided tours, which you can pick up here at the visitor's center here at the office.
