I have been here 10 years. People get a little extra advice from me. In training sessions we are told "whatever you do, do not re-traumatize them and be careful of what you say." When people call me, they're having a little trauma issue with their image and their appearance and the way they see themselves in the mirror. It makes a lot of them really very sad. They are very stressed. They feel like they've lost control of their lives. Not everybody feels like that, but some do. My job is to soothe them and calm them and to give them hope. Well if I say "look you if you would just lose weight, work out and eat right you wouldn't be in this situation to begin with." Because really that's true in a lot of cases, and in a lot of other cases, it's not. Look at me; I was a little person anyway, even after having two babies. You just have loose skin. Diet and exercise aren't going to help that at all.

Before surgery, I give them an abbreviated lesson on diet and exercise. I say "you're going to spend a lot of money on this surgery. The last thing that you want to do is throw all of that money in the trash. And you will throw it in the trash if you go back and eat flour products, sugar products, and unrefined carbohydrates." I would say, "stay away from the sugar and the flour except once a week. Once a week you can float, okay?" I tell them that and then I tell them to try to walk at least 30 minutes a day and if you can get to a gym and do weights; that doubles your effort. That makes it even better. So, if someone has liposuction or a tummy tuck and then they go around and they gain all the weight back, it is going to be a waste. However, there is good news. The good news is after liposuction or a tummy tuck, if you gain 50 lbs. and then take it off, you're going to look great all over again just like you did right after the surgery.
