Where to Find Office Trailers for Sale

By Amber Keefer

  • Overview

Purchasing an office trailer is usually less expensive for a business than renting or buying a building for office space. While mobile office trailers provide convenient, temporary office space, some are used as permanent offices. Many office trailers provide office and storage space combined. When you visit a dealer, you can choose a trailer in stock or have your office space custom designed to suit your purpose. You may decide to upgrade a standard unit by selecting from a variety of different options. But whatever your preferences, the first step is to begin the search for an office trailer that will meet your needs.
    • Step 1

Check classified ad listings for office trailers for sale. Search online classified ad sites, as well as print ads in newspapers and trade magazines. One advantage of online classifieds is that ads are updated more frequently. Look for private owners who have posted a used office trailer for sale online. You may be able to save up to 50 percent of the cost by purchasing a trailer used rather than new.
    • Step 2

Find local businesses that deal in office trailers in the Yellow Pages. Mobile storage and modular/manufactured or mobile home dealers are other possible resources. By using the Yellow Pages, you can locate dealers within a particular geographic area. A primary advantage of buying local is that you will have lower transportation costs.

    • Step 3

Contact banks to inquire whether there are any recently repossessed office trailers that will be sold through auction. You may be able to purchase a trailer at a really good deal, perhaps well below the actual market value. Get the details beforehand, and keep in mind that there can be some bad repos out there, too, so ask to inspect the trailer before you place a bid.
    • Step 4

Visit construction and building trade shows to see what different companies and suppliers in the modular building and mobile office industry have to offer. There should be knowledgeable sales representatives on hand at the booths to answer your questions.
    • Step 5

Obtain a list of businesses in the mobile office or modular building industry from the Better Business Bureau. Businesses on the list are committed to treating consumers honestly and fairly. Although the Better Business Bureau does not recommend specific products or businesses, a consumer may request a list of credible businesses in a particular category.
    • Step 6

Speak to a representative of a contracting company that has an office trailer on a construction site. You may be able to get information about or even a referral to a dealer who supplies prefabricated mobile trailers. Or call other general contractors and ask if they can point you in the right direction.

    • Tip: Despite the growing popularity of online classified ads, research shows that most consumers still resort to the Yellow Pages at some point for more information about products or services.
    • Warning:
    • Find out if set-up charges are included or are considered to be an extra cost before you buy an office trailer.
